Hewlett-Packard: Designjet Z6100

New

HP's newest printer is full of brand-new groundbreaking technology that is worth learning about!

High Quality & Super Fast Speeds

  • Compared to the HP Designjet 5500-series, HP Designjet Z6100-series printers deliver equal or better print quality at higher speed in every print mode. On HP Heavyweight Coated Paper, equivalent print quality is produced almost twice as fast.

HP Double Swath Technology

  • HP Designjet Z6100-series printers use four (4) pairs of HP 91 printheads. These are placed in a staggered configuration to give 2,112 nozzles per color and 16,896 nozzles in total.
  • HP Double Swath technology prints swaths from the top and bottom printhead arrays at the same time. High print quality is ensured by a small overlap between the print swaths and automatic alignment of color-to-color within each swath and between the swaths.
  • The print swath is a wide 1.7 inch (43mm) that can produce an A1/D print on coated paper in about 42 seconds.

Elements of High Quality Printing at High Speed

To take full advantage of the wider print swath and throughput potential of HP Double Swath technology, the media must be advanced a longer distance between scans of the print carriage. HP's unique Optical Media Advance Sensor, the media drive, and vacuum hold-down systems in the print platen work together to deliver accurate media motion control.

  • The HP Optical Media Advance Sensor makes direct optical measurements of actual media position to give 2x - 10x better accuracy than conventional encoders.
  • The HP Optical Media Advance Sensor is built into the platen of HP Designjet Z6100-series printers. About 30 times per second, the HP Optical Media Advance Sensor takes digital images of the microscopic structure on the backside of the media as it moves through the printer. Successive images are compared and the motion between images is computed in real-time.

The print platen plays an important role in controlling media flatness and position in the print zone. The platen features a unique design for vacuum channels, vacuum settings matched to the media type, and separate media drive and vacuum systems for the print and overdrive zones. These features are important to keep the media positioned, flat, and properly tensioned during printing.

  • Keeping the media as flat as possible in the print zone minimizes dot position errors and prevents the media from touching and damaging the printheads.
  • The printer's vacuum system creates a low pressure in a network of channels in the platen surface. The pressure difference between the channels and the atmosphere presses the media against the platen in the print zone and against the overdrive rollers in the overdrive zone.
  • The vacuum level is controlled by the printer and it is optimized and set for each type of media. In addition, different vacuum levels are used depending on media width and printer operating conditions such as loading, printing, and retracting media.

DreamColor Technologies

HP DreamColor Technologies make it easy for you to produce accurate, predictable and consistent color across different printers, presses and media. The HP Designjet Z6100 Printer series comes equipped with HP DreamColor Technologies:

  • HP Professional PANTONE emulation
  • HP's closed-loop color calibration and automatic ICC profiling with the HP embedded spectrophotometer and software.

HP 91 Vivera Pigment Inks

The 8-ink HP 91 Vivera pigment ink system features five (5) color inks (Light and Dark Cyan, Light and Dark Magenta, and Yellow) and the HP Three-black ink set (Light Gray, Photo Black, and Matte Black). HP 91 inks are supplied in 775ml ink cartridges to provide unattended operation and low intervention rates in print production environments. Users can easily remove and install an HP 91 Printhead in about a minute without the expense, printer down-time, and inconvenience of a service call.

HP 91 Maintenance Cartridge

HP Designjet Z6100-series printers feature a single HP 91 Maintenance Cartridge that provides service station functions for all eight HP 91 printheads. Caps, wipers, orifice plate cleaners, and waste ink disposal are integrated into a single user-replaceable cartridge with an expected life of 2,000 A1 prints.

Printheads periodically eject a few drops of ink from each nozzle into a spittoon to ensure that there is always fresh ink in the drop generators. Over time, ink aerosol can condense and accumulate on service station surfaces. The HP 91 Maintenance Cartridge features a vacuum extraction system to remove and trap ink aerosol. Aerosol is drawn by suction into the spittoon to keep the maintenance cartridge and the surrounding area clean.

Embedded Spectrophotometer

The embedded spectrophotometer with i1 Color Technology from GretagMacbeth is mounted on the printer carriage and revolutionizes professional color workflows by automating media profiling.

  • The completely self-contained optical system and electronics produce CIE Lab, CIE XYZ, spectral, and Density Status E outputs.
  • Automatically generate custom RGB ICC profiles for any media. (roll or sheet)
  • The broad color gamut will provide over 80% Pantone coverage, and full compliance with prepress standards.
  • With the optional HP Advanced Profiling Solution, you can edit and modify existing profiles and create CMYK profiles.
  • The printer can eject the test chart for off-line drying. The test chart will be automatically aligned with the spectrophotometer when it is reloaded into the printer, and the automated profiling process can resume.
  • A complete printer calibration and profiling process including user inputs, printing, drying, scanning, and processing takes about 30 minutes.
